Leading and learning

Doesn’t work without humility

Doesn’t work without humility

Cast anxiety on Him

Ps. 55:23

How to beat anxiety?

Rest in this fact: God cares for you.

But don’t be stupid.

Verse 8

Think clearly. Pay attention.

Supernatural realities are not taken seriously

“We live in a time when modern people have difficulty even using words like ‘good’ and evil.” Allan Bloom, The Closing of the American Mind

Pay attention to transcendent language when tragedy strikes

Verse 10-12

Stand firm in…grace.

“Whenever Christian have forgotten that walking in the steps of Jesus is costly, 1 Peter has been a forgotten book. The ‘true grace of God’ hardly seems necessary for communities

which are rich with their own resources. Where membership in the family of God is offered at bargain-basement prices, the message of 1

Peter is sure to be irrelevant, for only alien communites will find that this

book still speak a word of encouragement.”

“Where people are offered what they want, the call to follow Jesus ‘in His steps’ is not heard. Instead, what is offered is affluence, peace of mind,

and other itemson the perceived wish list of viewers. It is a world far removed from 1 Peter, where the true grace of God is costly and

demanding. Historically, when the church maintained its identity, it made an impression on the wider populace. The proper role of the

church in culture is not to offer the populace what it wants, but to follow

the path of the rejected ine who gave Himself for others.”

“Today the task for the church is not to become more popular to a secular

society, but to be faithful to its commitment. Our story did not begin with a popular Savior, but with one whose people did not receive Him.”

—James Thompson, The Church In

Exile
