Observations of the Monitoring Institute
Interruption in the serving of Mid Day Meal in 10-15% school In Bemetara
and Balodabazar districts. Delay in the delivery of food grains in 50% sampled schools in Baloda Bazar,
Bemetara, Durg, Kabirdham (Kawardha), Kanker and 40% sampled schools in
Kondagaon, Korba, Korea, Mungeli and Narayanpur
In majority (2 out of 5) of the districts monitored by MI it is reported that the
quality of rice is not good. ‘A’ grade rice is not supplied to MDM of schools.
Delay in the payment of remuneration to cook-cum-helpers was quite
delayed i.e. 3-6 months.

The Monitoring Institute has visited two centralized kitchens, in
Balodabazar & Durg and observed that the centralized kitchens are
supplying hot cooked meal to the students but menu of the centralized
kitchen, Durg is not suitable to the local community food habits and most
of the children are not eating properly.
No monitoring and supervision of centralized kitchens by the officials of
School Education Department in the two centralized kitchens.
In majority (56%) schools the food grain is being stored in class
rooms only. The storage of food grains is found to be un-hygienic.
Release of State funds in the beginning of the financial year. e-transfer of funds to cooking agencies. Additional contribution of Rs.200/- by State. More contribution against State share for cooking cost both in primary and upper
primary Empowering women by engaging Women SHGs under Mid-Day Meal Scheme in
rural areas. 21 points instructions painted on the wall of the school for Emergency Plan along
with important telephone and mobile numbers for contact during any untoward incident.
Hand wash with soap by children and CCH/SHGs before and after taking/preparing meals.
Sale of empty gunny bags. Ten Thousand rupees given for 10 schools each in 15 blocks for Kitchen Gardens.
