A.N. Sinha Institute, Patna 2nd half yearly report for 2014-15
Study covered five districts namely, Banka, Bhagalpur, Kaimur, Kishanganj & Purnia with a sample of 200 schools.
87.5% of sample schools visited were having buffer stock of food grains for one month & timely releases of fund.
88% of sample schools visited were getting cooking cost in advance regularly.
100% cook-cum-helpers of sample schools visited were paid honorarium of rupees 1000/- per month out of which 48.5% were paid through banking channel.
88% of sample schools visited were serving hot cooked meal on regular basis.

48% of sample schools visited were reported serving average quality meal.
There was no caste/gender/community based discrimination seen during the serving of the MDM to students in all samples schools
In 67% of sample schools visited health cards were maintained.
In 83.5% of sample schools visited one time yearly health check-ups were conducted.
In 95.5% of sample schools, children were given deworming medicine and in 83.5% of sample schools, children were given micronutrients

In 87% of sample schools visited kitchen-cum-stores were found constructed and in use.
In 99.5% of sample schools visited cooking utensils were available.
In 94.5% of sample schools visited was found insufficient number of eating plates.
In 88% of sample schools visited the general impression of environment safety and hygiene was found maintained and children were encouraged washing hand before and after eating.
Parents/SMC participation was found only in 66.5% of sample schools.
Impact was summarised as “MDM has improved the enrolment attendance retention of children in sampled schools” and it has helped in improvement of the social harmony to some extent.
Report of Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow
Evaluation was conducted with a sample of schools selected from five districts namely Saran, Vaishali, Lakhisarai, Begusarai & Sheikhpura.
Findings have been nearly similar to the findings of A.N. Sinha Institute, Patna.

INITIATIVE TAKEN IN 2014-15 Jingle prepared for media propagation and
also given news paper advertisement for involvement of Vidyalaya Shikha Samiti.
Information collected through IVRS regarding meeting of Vidyalaya Shikha Samiti.
Conducting Social Audit in two districts on pilot basis (Lakhisarai & Saran)- In Progress
One day training programme of 228000 cook cum helpers was organized during 15th January 2015 to 15 march 2015 for preparation of hygienic food and cleaning of kitchen shed.

Tracking of CUG mobile connection of block resource persons to know their mobility towards ensuring effective monitoring.

AWARD TO VIDYALAYA SHIKHA SAMITIAward to one VSS from each district has been implemented
for better implementation of MDM. VSS of 34 districts were awarded during Bihar Diwas 2015 by the Education Minister.
Criteria for award are:- Regular meeting of VSS Decision taken on better quality of MDM in VSS meeting Physical presence against Enrollment in school Proper maintenance of register and accounts of MDM Cleanliness and quality Absence of any untoward incidence during serving of MDM. MDM served days against school opened days . Proper implementation of menu. Cleaning of Kitchen shed and near by area. Availability of kitchen garden and its use.
GRIVANCE REDRESSALA toll free no 1800-345-6208 has been installed at directorate
level . This toll free no is integrated with online MIS .E.mail address and telephone numbers of all district level
officers and state level officers have been posted on dopahar org. for the public view and for sending grievance regarding mid day meal scheme.
Mid-day Meal issues are also dealt with at Weekly Janta Darbar of district magistrate and monthly Janta Darbar of the Honorable chief minister.
Every Friday Director Mid-day Meal meets people having complain against MDM.
Appeal against the decision of the district mid-day meal authorities are heard by Director mid-day meal on first and fourth Tuesday of every month.
Second appeal at the level of Principal Secretary is heard when ever required .

cook-cum-helper from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 2000/-
Increase in the rate of transportation cost from`750/- per MT to `1092.10 per MT which has not been revised since 2006.
Grant for kitchen device needs to be increased(Presently Rs. 5000 per school).
