Cognizant – PeopleSoft Infrastructure Evolution
• One IBM p590
server (Web, App,
Batch and DB
servers)
• 2 LPARs ( 2 CPU, 16
GB RAM each) for
• 3000+ concurrent
users (38K total users)
• Performance issues
with respect to
PeopleSoft Finance
• Required more CPU &
Memory
• Identified IBM JS-
• IBM JS 21 chasis
with 22 blade
servers
(16GB memory)
• 10 blade servers for
HCM and 12 for ESA
Production
• ELM and EPM came
on board
• ESA Production
performance
degradation due to
data volume
• 90% CPU during
peak days
• Application was
growing but unable
to provide stable
environment
• Need for a long term
solution live
• Start of Exalogic
implementation for
ELM and HCM and
ESA
• 8 weeks timeline
with No down time
during migration
• No major issues
reported since go

 14 nodes for PeopleSoft
2 nodes for Oracle Content Management
Our Journey and Experience in Exalogic implementation
Environment

Exalogic platform
Storage used by the application moved from IBM SAN to Oracle Exalogic
 No Downtime
NFS 4 performs better when compared to NFS 3 (requires Exalogic 2.0)
Installing SSL on Weblogic over Exalogic creates lot of overhead and performance impacts. SSL offloading
outside the web server (preferably on hardware load balancer) improves performance
Install the binaries at a common location and deploy the applications multiple times (unlike installing the
binaries across all servers)
Local SSD for frequently used files like cache files for better performance
Local ZFS storage for all file related storage requirements than using an external storage
Use JVM of 3 GB size for PeopleSoft without any performance impact
Jrockit works better when it has built sufficient cache. Avoid frequent recycling of web server
Key Considerations
Features LeveragedChallenges
 Configuring Enterprise Manager
NIS configuration - NIS master- lave sync-up issues ; hostname entries
 Frequent NFS –file I/O issues
Implementation Challenges and Features Leveraged

Features
LeveragedChallenges
 Consolidate and reduce server footprint
 Easier Scaling up
Improved performance of Weblogic in Exalogic platform
 Tuxedo processing improvements
Leveraged Oracle Traffic Director to distribute load using InfiniBand network
