- 1 5th October 2014 Last year University Academy students raised
almost 900 for the Chester Zoo and Act for Wildlife GO ORANGE
campaign. Chester Zoo staff have been asking, who will beat Dominic
and Joshs fundraising total and win the coveted Chester Zoo prize?
Which Year Group will raise the most money and what teacher is
going to win the prize for most outlandish Orange outfit ? But most
of all will they beat their 870 total from last year? On Friday the
24 th UAW will be a cacophony of colour with students paying 1 for
the privilege of wearing orange? Tutor groups will be holding bake
sales, and all sorts of wonderful and wacky fundraising activities.
Get your outfits ready and prepare yourself to Act for
Wildlife!

- Over the last 84 years the orang-utans habit has slowly been
destroyed by humans

- Threats to Orangutans: Running out of time : the relentless
expansion of oil palm production means that a lack of time is a
real threat to the conservation of the Bornean Rainforest. Forest
destruction: primarily due to clearing forest for oil palm
plantations, forest is being cut down to meet the global demand for
palm oil. Extinction: habitat loss on this scale could lead to the
extinction of many of the islands flagship species. Worst-case
scenarios indicate that if forest destruction continues the
Orang-utan will face extinction.

- In 2011, I was part of a Chester Zoo team who acted for
orangutans by travelling out to assist our project partners in
Borneo who are building bridges for orangutans. We spent two weeks
with the HUTAN-KOCP team and assisted with the construction of
seven bridges in conditions of 35 C, 90% humidity and a lot of
leeches! Last year I raised almost 100 with my friend by doing a
sponsored run, I got my friends and family to sponsor me and it was
great fun and we won a visit to Chester zoo At summer school we
learnt about the orang-utans habitats and how we can help by
raising money to help fund rope bridges to let them cross the
rivers
