6.1 NEED FOR STUDY :
In every aspect management of chronic/ non-healing ulcer is a challenge to surgeons.
Therefore a primary attention is needed for healing of wound with in a short span of
time with out any complications. As such there is a lack of comparative studies of
thaila upakramas. Hence to fulfill this lacuna present study is taken up.
In the management of vrana, Acharya Susruta has mentioned 60 different
upakramas, taila is one among them for sodhana and ropana.1,2,3 It should be used for
sodhana of vrana when it has the following characteristics;
1.Unnata mamsa,
2.Asnigdha
3.Alpasrava yukta,
Indication of taila upakrama for ropana, when there is predominancy of
vathakapha dosha.
Karanjadi taila, which is the Taila form of Karanjadi Ghritha4, is indicated for
dushtavrana in vidradhi adhyaya and also in medoarbuda chikitsa of Susruta
Samhita.5 Jatyadi taila is mentioned in Bhavaprakasa for dushtavrana.6 Previously
works have studied them individually. The results of the study was encouraging in
terms of size reduction of the wound and other features. The present study is very
much merited to compare the effects of the two tailas in management of Dushta
vrana.
The study will be carried out to evaluate the clinical effects of Jatyadi taila
and Karanjadi taila separately on dushtavrana. The study is planned to do in those
ulcers which are mentioned as indications of Taila upakramas.
