A decible is the standard for measurement of noise.

The zero on a decibel scale is at the threshold of hearing the lowest sound pressure that can be heard.

• 20db is whisper• 40db noise in quiet

office• 60db is normal

conversation• 80db is level at

which sound becomes physially painful.

• Noise pollution is human created noise harmful to welfare and health.

• The noise may cause annoyance, tension in muscles, nervous irritability and strain.

• Road Traffic noise

• Air-craft noise

• Noise from railroads

• Construction noise

• Noise in Industry

• Noise in buildings

• Noise from consumer products

SOURCES OF NOISE POLLUTION

• The noise pollution has two sources, i.e. industrial and non- industrial.

• The industrial source includes the noise from various industries and big machines.

• Non- industrial source of noise includes the noise created by transport/vehicular traffic and the neighborhood.

• Noise generated by various noise pollution can also be divided in the categories , namely, natural and manmade.

Effects of noise pollution

• It decreases the effeciency of man• Lack of concentration• Fatigue• Effect on vegetation• Effect on animal• Effect on property• It causes blood pressure• Temporary deafness

Effects of Noise Pollution

• Excessive noise may cause permanent loss of hearing.

• There are chronic effects of noise pollution if a person is exposed to high noise level for long duration.

• Transportation vehicles are the worst offenders with aircraft, buses, roadrail stock, automobiles, motorcycles, trucks producing excessive noise.

• There is no doubt that noise pollution is equally hazardous to man kind as any other form of pollution.

• Thus a combined effort must be made by all of us to stop NOISE POLLUTION!!
