When you click on tab name in Word 2007, you won’t see the drop-down menus familiar from earlier versions of Word. Instead, the Word Ribbon opens, which replaces the toolbars from earlier versions of Word

The Word 2007 Ribbon is divided into different sections/groups depending on the commands they contain. Because Word offers many options, they don’t all fit on the Ribbon.

Command Buttons in each group carry out a command or display a menu of commands.

Some groups have a small diagonal arrow in the bottom left corner – a dialog box launcher. Clicking it reveals more options related to that group.

The active tab is highlighted, and the commands on that tab display immediately below the tabs.

The tabs are sensitive to the context in which you are working.

To illustrate this, suppose you had inserted an image into your document. On selecting the image, the Picture Tools tab appears where previously it was hidden. Clicking away from the picture hides this tab again.

The Home tab contains all the things you use most often, such as commands in the font group for changing text size, color and so on.

The view tab contains basic and advanced view settings. Some of these options also appear below the horizontal and vertical scroll bars.

Below the horizontal scroll bar, you can see the same commands found in the document group below the view Tab.

To the right of the vertical scroll bar, you can see the same commands found in the show group and window group below the view Tab.
