Transcript of Day 1 Use long division to find (x 2 – 2x – 15) ÷ (x – 5).

5.2 Polynomial Division

Day 1 Long Division

To divide a polynomial by a

monomial, divide each term in the

numerator by the term in the

denominator.

Recall long division

Now apply to polynomials

Use long division to find (x2 – 2x – 15) ÷ (x – 5).

to (a2 – 5a + 3)(2 – a)–1

(4y3 − 6y2 + 4y − 1) ÷ (2y − 1)

Use long division to find (4x2 + 8x + 5) ÷ (2x + 3).

Day two Synthetic Division

Use synthetic division to find (x3 – 4x2 + 6x – 4) ÷ (x – 2).

Use synthetic division to find (x2 + 8x + 9) ÷ (x + 1).

(3c4 + 6c3 - 2c + 4)(c + 2)-1

Use synthetic division to find (4y3 – 6y2 + 4y – 1) ÷ (2y – 1).

Divide the numerator and denominator by the leading coefficient

(6 𝑦2– 5 𝑦 – 15)(2 𝑦+3)–1
