40+ Years of Airborne LiDAR Innovation
TELEDYNE OPTECH – 1977 - First terrain profiling system
– 1980 - Profiler 5000 (5 km @ 100 Hz)
– 1984 - LARSEN 500 - profiling bathymeter
– 1985 - Model 501 Laser Rangefinder
– 1988 - FLASH/ALARMS - scanning bathymeters
– 1993 - ALTM prototype (1 km @ 2kHz)

• Funded by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Canada is contributing OLA, an advanced lidar instrument, a hybrid of the lidar on the CSA's weather station aboard the Phoenix Mars Lander and an instrument flown on the 2005 US Air Force eXperimental SatelliteSystem-11 (XSS-11)
• Both instruments were built MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) and Teledyne Optech, as a subcontractor to MDA
• MDA is the prime contractor for the design, build and testing of OLA, Teledyne Optech as subcontractor
