Big Idea 1: EvolutionThe process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life.

Big Idea 2: Cellular Processes: Energy and CommunicationBiological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis.

Big Idea 3: Genetics and Information TransferLiving systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.

Big Idea 4: InteractionsBiological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties.

AP Biology Test

AP Exams For each AP course you take in high school

(typically your junior and/or senior year), an AP Exam is administered in May at participating high schools worldwide.

Each AP Exam is given an overall grade of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, (5 is the top score).

Colleges and universities set their own score for credit or advanced placement in each course, however, a score of 3, 4, or 5 typically indicates a student who is qualified to receive college credit and/or advanced placement.

AP Courses/Exams and College Success

Students who take AP courses and exams are more likely than their peers to complete a bachelor’s degree in four years or less.
